Ayer leía algunos escritos de Tostoy en los que hablaba del alma, el espíritu, la fe y Dios. Eran otros tiempos. Me interesaba ver cómo sonaba todo eso ahora mismo. Podemos leer cualquier texto griego sin ningún problema, como si acabara de ser escrito, sin embargo, un texto de no hace tanto, un siglo y un poco más, nos produce pudor. Todas esas palabras han sido liquidadas directamente, resultan molestas. Y De Conatus saca un libro que se titula “El espíritu de las vacas”. ¿Tiene sentido?

 

Quizás estemos más abiertos a reconocer el espíritu en un animal que en el ser humano (está en el ambiente una especie de sacralización del mundo animal). ¿Tiene esta novela una intención de ensalzar el espíritu de los animales? No.

Más bien funciona como un espejo: si soy capaz de emocionarte con el comportamiento de unas vacas, a lo mejor te hago pensar en algunas carencias en los humanos actuales. Si soy capaz de contrastar la pobre comunicación entre humanos actuales con la inefable expresividad de una vaca, a lo mejor te hago consciente de las carencias en nuestras relaciones.

 

Y dice Tolstoy: “Que el hombre no sea consciente del alma que habita en él no significa que en él no haya un alma, solo significa que todavía no ha aprendido a tener conciencia de su alma”. Alma, espíritu, si molestan esas palabras, podemos cambiarlas por conexión con la vida, o capacidad para reconocer algunas leyes vitales que nos atañen a todos, a animales y humanos.

 

Lo que más le sorprendía a Kant, y también lo recoge Tolstoy, eran las estrellas en el cielo y la ley moral en el alma del hombre. Eso me hace reflexionar sobre cualquier asesinato: ¿Nos repugna que el asesino desobedezca una ley penal o el hecho de que mate a un…? Iba a decir prójimo, pero también suena raro, también da pudor y sin embargo solo significa proximidad. La paleta de palabras que nos obligan a usar en cada época simplemente para poder participar de una conversación aprobada por una mayoría social puede ser quebrada por la literatura, que no tiene que nombrar, ni decir, ni discutir, solo mostrar.

 

¿Tienen las vacas espíritu? ¿Es el mismo espíritu que el nuestro? ¿Es posible que el espíritu sea algo más natural de lo que pensamos? ¿Serviría decir que aparece algo que llamaban antiguamente espíritu cuando hay una conciencia de conexión?

 

Cada lector que sienta a su manera El espíritu de las vacas que nos transcribe Abel Neves, pero que sepa que cuando habla de espíritu se refiere a eso, a algo común a todos los seres vivos que no tiene nombre, pero que nos hace conectar y nos ayuda a ver qué nos conviene y qué no, como si lleváramos impresa esa ley moral de la que hablaba Kant. Hoy en día esta forma de pensar está muy mal vista, la de hablar de espíritu y el conocimiento de una ley natural, pero no olvidemos una cosa, no es que hayamos superado nada, es que ha cambiado la paleta de palabras: se ha cambiado ley natural por ley de ideología de grupo y quizás sea un poco más cutre. Pero esto solo es una reflexión después de haber leído el libro. Cada uno que se mire en este texto.
