El poder representa la irracionalidad, la violencia absurda, la falta de sensibilidad. El poder construye «enanos».
El pueblo sólo intenta vivir. Pero para vivir se necesita un espacio que posibilite el desarrollo de los valores connaturales al ser humano.


11 relatos con Venezuela como escenario y el pueblo y el poder como personajes antagónicos. Cuando un relato está escrito por un gran poeta, lo que ofrece no es sólo una historia, es un estado emocional que obliga a entender lo que nos está contando, lo absurdo del poder.


Celso Emilio Ferreiro viajó a Venezuela en 1966 llamado por la Hermandad Galega para dirigir las actividades culturales del centro: la “Escola Castelao”, la revista Irmandade y un programa radiofónico. En seguida comenzaron las desavenencias con los directivos, reaccionarios para él, y fue expulsado. En esta situación, escribe un libro de poemas “Viaxe ao páis dos ananos” (Viaje al país de los enanos), donde aprovecha para hacer una crítica a todo lo que significa ser un enano, la falta de sensibilidad hacia el pueblo, la destrucción por la violencia no sólo física, sino moral, una violencia basada en el ansia de poder.

A fronteira infinda, La frontera infinita, tiene como escenario Venezuela, y al emigrante gallego como un personaje desubicado que sin embargo aplica su cultura a esas nuevas situaciones, con esto hace una gran diferencia entre esos ananos que después criticará y los emigrantes que ponen en valor su cultura, que tiene que ver con el honor, el saber entender lo extraño, el respeto al medio, valores del pueblo transmitidos por vía materna. En todos los relatos, la mujer está valorada como transmisora de una verdad natural. El silencio de la soledad del que está lejos se oye en todo el texto, la imposibilidad de volver, como si no hubiera marcha atrás en el proceso de abandonar la tierra, el que no va a ganar dinero, el que va a hacer una vida, de alguna manera no se ha ido por pobre, se ha ido huyendo de un ambiente enrarecido, de una asfixia individual creada por el ansia de poder de unos pocos. Y además de estos personajes gallegos, está el indígena venezolano, que vive en una frontera infinita que no le permite crear un hábitat donde pueda desarrollarse, la selva es caldo de cultivo de grupos enfrentados, militares, contrabandistas, antimilitares, que crean una situación que obliga a que toda la energía se concentre en sobrevivir.

Lo más destacable de los cuentos de Ferreiro es la potencia del lenguaje, un poeta describiendo lugares infinitamente apartados, creando emociones que atrapan al lector. Hay dos grandes personajes en todos los relatos, el pueblo y el poder. Los hombres violentos aparecen como enajenados. Describe esa violencia desde distintos ángulos, el humor salvaje, el absurdo. Un hombre inocente se ve metido en un interrogatorio infinito lleno de torturas cada vez más sofisticadas en una proceso que los enajenados ya no saben manejar, no le pueden dejar libre y no tiene nada que confesar, la única vía de salida es torturar hasta el final. En clave de caricatura, un dictador se ve destituido por un nuevo dictador en el momento en el que practican las muertes ejemplares de unas mujeres que parece que han estado con un enemigo del pueblo, la caza de brujas.
