LAS PALABRAS SUFREN EL TIEMPO. Una reflexión de Carvalho Calero

Carvalho Calero reflexionó durante toda su vida sobre la lengua. Dejo una traducción de un poema donde da vueltas a una idea que me parece fundamental y que continua con el tema de la necesidad de hacernos conscientes de las palabras, se trata del carácter temporal de las palabras, del uso inconsciente que hacemos de ellas, así nuestras feroces /contiendas por ideales o tesoros, /son luchas por palabras /que ya no significan lo que significaron. La idea de que las palabras no van a la velocidad del tiempo, de que no las usamos desde una contextualización actual resulta aterradora, empleamos la lengua de Salomón / en tiempos de Shamir. Supongo que un hombre como Carvalho Calero que vivió la cárcel y la prohibición de ejercer un trabajo sabe mucho del peligro encerrado en las palabras.

En El Líbano no hay cedros del Líbano.

Los hay en algunos versículos
de la Biblia. Los hay en los parques
De innumerables ciudades de Occidente.

Pero en El Líbano, no. Al menos
en la cordillera homónima. Tal vez
los agotaran los agentes
de Hde Hiram, rei de Tiro,
que se comprometió
a enviar materiales a Salomón
para la construcción del Templo.
Y en catamaranes, hasta Jope,
por el mar fueron los maderos
Transportados por los fenicios.

Y Salomón encargó a sus siervos

Que los transportaran desde allí a Jerusalem.
Y Hiram, rey de Tiro, envió
a Salomón un arquitecto, Huran- Abi,
cuyo padre era natural de Tiro
y su madre una mujer de la tribu
De Dan; y ya había servido al Rey Davi.

Obedeciendo órdenes, leñadores
fenicios derrumbaron
cedros sin parar; pero
no creo que el rey Hiram fuera
tan insensato como para arruinar
su riqueza forestal.

Mas bien debió de ser en la oscura noche
medieval – bizantinos y cruzados,
árabes y mongoles -cuando el orgulloso
árbol de su tierra desertó.
Permaneció la denominación
de origen. La gramática histórica
prevaleció sobre la semántica
sincrónica. La historia nos tiraniza.
El pasado nos aherroja.
Las cosas cambian, las palabras permanecen.
Palabras engañosas, fantasmas
nos visten léxicamente. El tiempo
cambió a falsos los nombres verdaderos.
La superestructura
lingüística pseudomorfosifica
la realidad. Lengua vaga
que no puede seguir
la evolución de las cosas de pies ágiles.

Muchas veces espectros sin sentido
-porque la rata del tiempo-
les royó la sustancia-
nos obligan a guerrear.
Y la historia es un combate de muertos.
las banderas que a la muerte nos conducen,
hace tiempo que perdieron la memoria
Del pueblo que simbolizaban.
Como el astrón capta la luz de las estrellas
apagadas desde largo en el Universo,
así nuestras feroces
contiendas por ideales o tesoros,

son luchas por palabras

que ya no significan lo que significaron.

En El Líbano no hay cedros del Líbano.
Mentimos cuando hablamos. Batallamos
por damas que dejaron de estar vivas,
por patrias que cambiaron sus mapas,
por riquezas que son papel moneda
sin reservas de oro
ni trigo ni metal ni grano alguno
que puedan garantizar
un cambio vital.

Nos administran espectros,
y palabras vacías
forman nuestro código
de falsas locuciones,
Nuestro diccionario de imposturas.

En El Líbano no hay cedros del Líbano.
No hay presente.
El pasado
nos rige, la anacrónica
sombra de lo que ya fue, pero que ya no es.

No hay cedros del Líbano en El Líbano.
Empleamos la lengua
de Salomón en tiempos de Shamir.
